Champagne, warm water
and two nights to yourself
There's a particular hour at the spa we've become quite fond of. The light has softened, the water is warm, and someone has just been handed a cold glass of champagne. No one is checking their phone. No one is rushing to dinner. That hour is more or less the whole idea.
This summer we've partnered with the champagne house Devaux, and we've built a midweek break designed to give you more of those hours than you'd usually allow yourself. Here's what the partnership is, why we chose Devaux, and how The 48 lets you settle into it properly.
Who Devaux are, and why we chose them
Devaux is a family champagne house from the Côte des Bar, the southern stretch of Champagne where Pinot Noir does most of the talking. Their style is what drew us in: rounded, generous, a little understated. It isn't champagne that demands a special occasion. It's the kind you can happily drink in a robe, in the afternoon, with your feet in warm water — which is exactly the point.
We spent a while tasting before we committed. We wanted a house champagne for the spa that felt like us rather than like a brand exercise: honest, well made, and easy to enjoy without ceremony. Devaux fitted.
The Spa at the Manor House
If you haven't visited in a while, The Spa at the Manor House is built for slowing down rather than ticking things off. Warm water, quiet corners, and time that stretches out the way it should when there's nowhere you need to be. Devaux is the champagne we pour here — a glass arrives chilled, you stay where you are, and the afternoon does what afternoons should.
The pools close at 7pm, so there's a natural rhythm to the day: long, unhurried, and finished in good time for dinner.
The 48: two nights to actually slow down
We built The 48 because one night is rarely enough. You arrive, you unpack, you start to relax — and then it's checkout. Two midweek nights changes the whole shape of a stay. The first afternoon is for arriving properly. The full day in between is yours, with no travel at either end. And you leave having genuinely rested rather than simply having been away.
The 48 runs midweek through July, August and September. It's a spa-led break with overnight rooms, time at The Spa at the Manor House, and a glass of Devaux waiting when you get there.
A few things worth knowing:
- It's midweek by design. Quieter days, more space at the spa, and the calmer end of our week.
- It's bookable directly with us only — not through third-party sites. That keeps the rate honest and means you're talking to the people who'll actually look after you.
- Rooms are limited across the summer, so the earlier dates tend to go first.
Worth doing properly
A spa break is one of the few things you can plan purely for your own benefit and not feel you have to justify. Two nights, warm water, and a glass of something good poured by people who chose it carefully. That's the whole of The 48.
If a midweek spa break in the North West is the kind of summer you're after, this is the one we'd point you towards.
Book The 48 directly with us — choose your dates for July, August or September, and we'll have the Devaux on ice.
